LEATHER UPHOLSTERY
Let us safely clean and restore your fine leather furniture to give it a long and beautiful life. PROTECTED: also referred to as pigmented, semi-aniline or finished leather. The pigments and finish applied to the leather affect the softness of it. The more applied, the less soft it becomes. Markings may be exposed during the cleaning process on light coloured leather and will require more pigment to restore the colour.
ANILINE: also referred to as natural or unprotected leather. Aniline leather is coloured with transparent dyestuff, enabling you to see the actual surface grain and markings. It is usually sprayed with a wax finish that provides short-term water repellence. It is more porous and susceptible to permanent staining. NUBUCK: also referred to as distressed leather. It has a brushed, soft surface that is on the grain side of the leather, whereas suede is the flesh side of the leather. NuBuck nap collects a lot of soil. Some nubuck leather is treated with a wax finish, otherwise it is very absorbent.
Fading is normal with aniline and nubuck leathers as they are only UV rated for only a few hundred hours of exposure before damage will occur. More often, colour restoration rather than cleaning will be necessary to protect your investment.
It is essential to have someone skilled in the area of leather cleaning and conditioning to avoid such problems as premature cracking or peeling of the finish. Improper techniques used on aniline and nubuck, will darken the leather. These delicate leathers are more easily damaged by spills, body oils and general soiling. Dyes, ink and oils are the most common spots requiring special attention.
Our process cleans, conditions, moisturizes, protects and seals all fine leather furniture.
